What to expect after your treatment
- Bruising or tenderness in the area of the injection may occur.
- Spotting may occur. This can last for a few hours – 12 hours.
- Immediately after the treatment, swelling can occur temporarily, and use of a cold compress or ice pack may help relieve the swelling.
- You may feel slight discomfort when urinating after treatment.
- If an antiviral was prescribed for you, continue to take as directed.
- You may return to your normal daily routine.
- Due to sensitivity in the area, you may want to refrain from sexual intercourse, vaginal penetration, tub baths or hot tubs, swimming, douching or use of tampons for 24 hours.
- Post treatment discomfort may be relieved by over-the-counter oral pain relievers; i.e. Extra Strength Tylenol or prescribed pain medication if ordered by the provider.
- Gentle use of bath tissue is recommended to reduce any sensitivity to the area.
- Drink plenty of water for the next 24 hours.
