Moxi laser treatments are the gentlest laser facial on the market and are great for any skin type or tone, as well as any time of the year. Patients who undergo the Moxi laser in Edina, Minnesota love that there is little to no downtime associated with this quick treatment.

Both Halo and BBL Hero work wonders to reverse the signs of sun damage, also referred to as photoaging.

What’s the difference between photoaging and normal aging?

Each person has a unique natural aging process. Genetics and lifestyle are the major contributing factors to the aging process. Photoaging is premature aging directly caused by repeated exposure to UV. If you aren’t protecting yourself from the sun, you’re contributing to premature aging.

When unmitigated, photoaging can make someone look 20 years older than they really are. That’s why the number one thing you can do for your skin is wear sunscreen!

The good news? Photofacials and laser facials work quickly and effectively to reverse photoaging and restore your fresh complexion.

Is BBL a laser facial?

It’s understandable why many people assume BBL is a type of laser, but broadband light photofacials are very different from laser facials! Lasers, such as the Halo, use one specific wavelength of light to deeply penetrate into the layers of the skin to a fixed depth. BBL can be customized to penetrate a variety of depths within your skin’s layers.

The fixed depth lasers penetrate much deeper than broadband light reaches. That makes most laser facials more aggressive than BBL photofacials. While a more aggressive approach can lead to significant results more quickly, it also means more downtime and discomfort. Photofacials do not require any downtime!

For those who want more intense results without the downtime of a laser facial there’s BBL Hero. This is the MOST powerful and versatile broadband light device on the market! Hero stands for High Energy Rapid Output. This means you get incredibly fast treatment time with better results. We can treat the face and large areas of the back, arms, and legs in just a few minutes!

Halo laser: Advanced hybrid fractional laser facials

The world’s first Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL), Halo revolutionized laser resurfacing facials with its ability to deliver non-ablative and ablative wavelengths to the same microscopic treatment zone, giving significant results without the downtime associated with traditional laser facials.

Laser facials are typically going to be one of three varieties:

Ablative laser treatments: The most intense laser peel

Ablative lasers treat thin layers of skin, like a deep chemical peel or dermabrasion, with a precision that allows the technician to reduce skin damage. These types of lasers are best for firming the skin and treating wrinkles and acne scars.

Non-Ablative laser treatments: Gentler, progressive results

Non-ablative lasers do not remove any skin—the light simply causes micro-damage to the skin to encourage natural skin healing. These facials are great for addressing fine lines and wrinkles on patients who are willing to wait 2–3 months for strong results.

Fractional laser treatments: Rejuvenate from inside

Fractional lasers are both ablative and non-ablative. They create small holes in the deeper layers of the skin to trigger and enhance skin healing. The skin’s self-healing process creates tighter, firmer, and healthier skin. Fractional laser treatments may also be performed to treat fine lines, acne scarring, sun damage, and pigmentation issues.

The unique Halo laser facial

During a Halo laser facial in Edina, we apply tunable non-ablative, as well as ablative wavelengths simultaneously to achieve great results with minimal downtime. We improve the appearance of numerous skin conditions, such as sun damage, aging, and acne.

Because the dermis remains intact, the epidermis heals quickly. This well-established treatment rids you of aged tissue with less thermal injury so you can get back to your life sooner.

A customizable laser facial

In addition to integrated cooling, with Halo we have the flexibility to completely turn off the ablation for those who want the very simplest laser treatment. Non-ablative and ablative laser wavelengths can be delivered at the same time, making a variety of depths and density coverage possible.

What is the benefit of both ablative and non-ablative treatment together?

In non-ablative treatments, we heat a column of skin called a micro thermal treatment zone to necrose the epidermis and denature the dermal collagen. After undergoing non-ablative treatment, patients have small packets of “debris” that rise in their skin as the regenerated tissue pushes damaged tissue up and out.

Adding ablation removes some of the tissue that would otherwise be necrosed near the surface, eliminating the formation of those packets. Through this, healing of the skin is increased as well.

MOXI™: The “mini” Halo laser

The idea of laser facials intimidates a lot of people when they’re first getting started on their anti-aging journey! For those who are concerned about long downtimes or uncomfortable recovery, the Moxi laser is the gentlest approach to radiant skin.

This lunchtime treatment corrects uneven pigmentation and improves overall texture and tone in a quick, comfortable process. Moxi is great for any age, any skin type, and best of all—any season!

Moxi is so gentle you can put makeup on immediately after your treatment and head on back to work. With just three treatments you will see noticeable improvement in tone, texture, coloration, and signs of aging.

What is a BBL photofacial?

We have established that BBL is not a laser like the Halo fractional laser facial, so what is it? Broadband light photofacials are a type of corrective phototherapy treatment. Signs of aging, sun damage, rosacea, acne and more are no match for this customizable treatment!

BBL makes for a great “maintenance” treatment because it’s comfortable and has no downtime while providing significant results. Many clients keep their skin radiant with a BBL photofacial every 3 to 6 months.

How does BBL work?

Broadband light therapy deposits pulses of light energy to heat the upper layers of skin. Targets within the skin absorb the light energy and are destroyed. Targets of the light include fine, broken vessels that cause redness, pigmentation, and the bacteria that causes acne.

While the light energy corrects uneven pigmentation on your skin, it also works at the RNA level to boost your natural collagen production. RNA, or ribonucleic acid, is a vital component of all living cells. It carries instructions from DNA that control the synthesis of proteins (like collagen).

Now that we know what a BBL photofacial is and how it works, let’s compare it to some of our other popular facial treatments.

BBL vs Halo

As we mentioned above, Halo is a laser facial instead of light therapy like BBL. For folks concerned about physical scarring, pore size, texture, significant sun damage, dullness, or melasma—Halo is best. For those who are happy with their skin texture, but aren’t so happy with excessive redness, browns, blood vessels, or widespread inflammatory acne–—BBL is best. Need to address both? We can create a treatment plan that perfectly blends the two treatments for amazing results.

What does it cost to reverse sun damage in Minnesota?

Broadband light therapy, Moxi, and Halo laser costs vary based on your unique situation. During your skin consultation with our aesthetic experts, we will work together to determine the best treatment options. If BBL photofacials, Moxi, or Halo laser facials are part of that treatment, we will discuss the number of recommended treatments and the length of time between those treatments.

When we know how we are going to proceed, we tally the cost of the treatments that will effectively reverse your sun damage.

What have we learned about reversing sun damage in Minnesota?

Broadband light therapy is not a laser facial, it is a trusted solution for improving the appearance of skin through the use of broadband light pulses.

The Halo laser was the first fractional hybrid laser, combining non-ablative and ablative wavelengths for an effective treatment with low downtime.

The Moxi treatment is the gentlest approach to laser facials and is considered a “mini Halo.”

We can customize BBL and Halo to treat a variety of skin issues, including:

  • Rosacea and redness
  • Sun spots
  • Age spots
  • Wrinkles or fine lines
  • Sagging skin
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Pore size
  • Crepey skin

The light energy used in BBL also acts on an RNA level to boost your natural collagen production, leading to younger looking skin over time.

Halo treatments often show results in fewer treatments than older, non-hybrid technology.

BBL is most effective when used as a “maintenance” treatment that is safe to schedule several times a year, but is still effective with only yearly maintenance, if you prefer.

When it comes to laser facials, the Halo treatment is more comfortable with less downtime—patients can put on makeup 24 hours after the procedure if they wish.

The cost of your treatment will depend on different factors, like the number of treatments scheduled and the area(s) we treat. We often recommend three treatments with BBL or Moxi for ideal results.
