Step 2: Treatment Planning
Based on our conversation, we will create a tailored treatment just for you.
Step 3: Treatment
Following pre-treatment photos, you will have a topical numbing cream applied to the treatment area. After 45 to 60 minutes, we will remove the excess cream and perform the treatment. We will direct cold air to the area of treatment with our Zimmer to help with comfort during the procedure. After the ProFractional treatment, we will apply a topical ointment to the treated area. We’ll send you home with some instructions to apply several times a day for the next 3 to 4 days.
Step 4: Follow up
We recommend a follow-up in one month.

Pre Care Instructions

- Prep your skin with medical grade skincare recommended from your provider
- If you are instructed, begin use of a pigment controller (i.e. hydroquinone) before your treatment and continue use up until the treatment day
- If you have ever had a cold sore (Herpes simplex 1) or shingles, please notify your provider and you will receive a prescription for an oral antiviral medication.
- Tylenol can be taken before the procedure to help with discomfort.
- Injectables must be done 2 weeks before the procedure
Post Care Instructions

- Continue taking any prescribed medications as directed by your provider.
- Day 1 (day of the procedure) Use an occlusive medical grade moisturizer or aquaphor
- Day 2-7 cleanse your skin with a medical grade gentle cleanser and moisturize as often as needed
- Day 2 begin use of a broad spectrum spf 30 in the morning
- Avoid excessive exfoliation and significant exposure to the sun for at least 2 weeks post treatment
- You may begin use of your pigment controllers and retin-a 2 weeks post procedure.
- We recommend a facial 6 weeks post treatment to help with hydration and exfoliation
- Injectables can be done 2 weeks post treatment

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a painful treatment?
The treatment can be uncomfortable and warm, however, we can make you comfortable with various numbing techniques.
What is used for comfort measures?
We always use a topical numbing cream in addition to a cold air device to cool the skin. In areas that could be more sensitive, local lidocaine is used. We also can use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or prescribe oral medication to reduce discomfort.
How will I look after the treatment?
Depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment, you may look red and have several spots of blood on your face, or for a deeper treatment, the area could be covered with many more spots of blood. The small dots of blood will wash off over the next 24 hours. The skin will remain red for 3 to 5 days or longer, for more aggressive treatment. If the face is treated, you may also experience some swelling for 3 to 4 days.
How long will I look red or have little dots of blood?
The redness will resolve in an average of 4 to 7 days depending on the depth of the treatment. Typically, the little areas of blood wash off in the 24 hours after treatment.
What do I use for aftercare?
We will give you an ointment to apply to the treated areas for the next 4 to 5 days.
Can the Profractional be used on patients with darker skin tones?
Yes, we can tailor the parameters for darker skin tones.
