Medications and Supplements to Avoid Before Your Procedure

To ensure the best possible results from your treatment and minimize the risk of bruising or complications, please follow these guidelines:

  • NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs): Discontinue use of medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen (Advil, Aleve, Motrin) at least 5–7 days prior to your procedure. These medications can interfere with platelet function and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. It’s also recommended to avoid them for several weeks post-treatment for optimal healing.

  • Anti-Inflammatory Supplements: Avoid natural anti-inflammatories like turmeric, curcumin, arnica, and ginkgo biloba both before and after your treatment, as they may similarly affect platelet activity.

  • Blood Thinners: If you are taking prescription blood thinners such as Coumadin, Eliquis, Xarelto, Plavix, or Pradaxa, consult your prescribing physician or cardiologist for guidance and clearance before discontinuing any medication.

  • Vitamins: Refrain from taking Vitamin A, D, and E for at least 5 days prior to treatment.

  • Other Supplements: Avoid garlic, fish oil/omega-3s, flax oil, and horse chestnut seed extract, which may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding.

Post Care Treatment

Immediate Aftercare (First 24–48 Hours)

Protect the Area: Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the injection site.
Take It Easy: Skip intense workouts, saunas, hot tubs, or anything that causes excessive sweating.
Keep It Clean: Don’t apply makeup, lotions, or skincare to the area for 24 hours. Cleanse gently with mild cleanser and lukewarm water.
Reduce Swelling: Use a cold compress (wrapped in a cloth) for 15–20 minutes every few hours to ease discomfort.
Skip NSAIDs: Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen for at least 48 hours unless instructed otherwise. Tylenol is okay for pain.

Ongoing Care (Following Days & Weeks)

Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun and apply SPF 30+ daily.
Hydration & Nutrition: Drink plenty of water and eat a nutrient-rich diet to support healing.
Resume Skincare Gradually: Restart your regular skincare 5–7 days post-treatment. Avoid harsh exfoliants, retinoids, or scrubs for 10–14 days.
Avoid Alcohol & Smoking: Both can slow healing—try to avoid for several days.
Follow-Up: Keep all follow-up appointments to monitor progress and plan ongoing care.

After the scalp treatment, you can shower and wash your hair after a few hours; however;, we advise against using harsh chemicals or coloring products on your hair or scalp for at least 72 hours after treatment. 

Is there any downtime associated with PDGF therapy?
